There are actually debates on whether Zinc is a vitamin or a mineral. There are websites on the internet that say that Zinc is a vitamin and there are websites that say that Zinc is a mineral. From the articles on the internet there are more findings that say that Zinc is a mineral that is needed by the body.

Zinc cannot really be called a vitamin because its components are not the same as other vitamins. Zinc can however be classified as metal but we have to take note that it can also be poisonous when taken in high dosages.

There are a lot of symptoms that can manifest when there is zinc deficiency. Hair loss, lesions on the skin, diarrhea, and poor immune system are just some of the symptoms. Zinc can cause people to not have the appetite to eat and sometimes people abuse this by consuming too much Zinc when in fact it can be poisonous. There are also times when people take Zinc before eating and this can cause abdominal discomfort and nausea.

There are still studies going on about which type of Zinc is the most effective to use for curing colds and other deficiencies but so far the glutamate zinc has been found to be the most effective for most people.
